House, Birds & Trees
This painting is created on wooden board and the two knots within the board were used to form the Sun and Moon within the painting. An interesting point about having the Sun represented where a knot in the wood is, is that in the real tree, the Sun's energy induced the growth of the branch which is where this knot is located.Similarly the Moon is also involved in the whole process of altering the tides, weather, rain and also has a hand in the growth of this knot in the board. And so, the knots seem more appropriate to be used as the Sun and Moon ... as the knots are the remnant results of the influence of the Sun and Moon - they are almost like 'stored action' by the Sun and Moon in the wood.

Guitar, Bottle & Fruit
This painting has a write up on the back describing how the whole painting started. Because this board of wood had a knot hole near the edge, my original thought was that the board couldn't be used to paint on but then the idea came to me to use that knot hole as a worm hole in an apple and so a whole still life painting resulted from that. So in this way, the whole painting stemmed from what had originally been assumed to be a mistake or an error. And so , although some viewers may dislike that hole in the wood and label it as an error, the very painting stemmed from that error and so it is a vital part of the whole painting regardless of how some people may dislike it's presence.
